HWY 133 Damage

 | Sandbags | HWY 133 Damage | Resources/Links | Parks/Trails Status |

Friday, June 23, 2023

  • Crews opened the CO 133 temporary bridge to traffic on Monday, June 19 at 10 a.m. The reopening of the roadway took place 10 days ahead of the contractual deadline. Contractor R.L. Wadsworth began the project on May 23. The process for this type of prefabricated bridge usually requires four months, but crews expedited the installation.
  • The CDOT design team has been working in tandem with the emergency project to design the permanent repairs for CO 133 which will replace the damaged culvert and repave the highway quickly. The accelerated bridge technology utilized for this project is based on a design pioneered and used by the U.S. Department of Defense in World War II, and can be designed quickly to carry heavy loads including truck traffic.
  • With the temporary bridge in place, the team is working to determine the best option for the permanent repair.  Any further traffic impacts for permanent repairs are expected to be minimal.
  • The speed limit is 40 mph through the work zone.

Travel Impacts

  • The temporary bridge has two lanes and the speed limit is 40 mph. Commercial motor vehicle traffic is restricted to 85,000 lbs and 11-foot width.
  • Kebler Pass reopens to traffic today, Friday, June 23 at 3 p.m.For more information please click on this link: News Flash • Gunnison County, CO • CivicEngage.
