Delta County, Colo., October 2, 2024 — Starting on October 15, 2024, there will be an important change in the eligibility requirements for obtaining vital records, including birth and death certificates. As mandated by the State, grandparents, and grandchildren will no longer be considered immediate family for the purpose of obtaining copies of these vital records. This change will require individuals to have a direct and tangible interest or present a court order of guardianship to access these documents.
In response to the change, Delta County is committed to ensuring the public is well-informed. Effective immediately, clear notices will be posted on the County’s Birth and Death Records pages and throughout the County offices to alert those who may be affected by the new eligibility rules.
“This is a significant adjustment for many families in our community, as grandparents frequently request copies of their grandchildren’s birth certificates,” said Teri Stephenson, Clerk and Recorder of Delta County. “We encourage everyone to review these changes and plan accordingly before the new rules go into effect on October 15th.”
