Here are some links to helpful documents about the best trees to plant in Paonia. Our soils, invasive pests, climate, and other factors make some trees good bets and others certain losers. Every expert has their own list of favorite trees. These lists can change as conditions change, such as climate or the introduction of new varieties, pests, or diseases. We are working on updated lists that reflect current conditions.
Here are three links from Town of Paonia:
- Paonia approved trees for town Right-of-Way (RoW).
- Prohibited Trees for town Right-of-Way (RoW)
- Trees appropriate for Paonia - Not necessarily Right-of-Ways trees (RoW)
Here are some links to downloadable resources about how to correctly plant trees so they survive in until next year and for the long run. Note how important it is not to overwater (yes!) and not to add very much new soil to the planting hole for a new tree (use the soil that was dug out of the planting hole).
